Boyne Arts Collective 2012

Boyne Arts Collective:  June 2012 Newsletter

The big excitement this winter for the Boyne Arts Collective (BAC) was the invitation to display much of our art at the Made in Michigan Shop within the Village of the Boyne Mountain Resorts in Boyne Falls.

Curator Mary Whitlock and Elaine Case spent many hours delivering and adjusting the artwork to suit the staff at Made in Michigan. The BAC members were delighted to demonstrate their art techniques to visitors at Boyne Mountain each weekend from January to May. BAC artists will continue to sell artwork at the Mountain throughout the year. The General BAC Meetings and concerts were not held during the winter months.

Previous to the Grand Re–Opening of the BAC Gallery at 210 S Lake Street in the South Boyne (SOBO) area of Boyne City, there was a great turnout of members for a work bee.

All of the walls and dividers were patched and painted, lighting and ceiling tiles were installed, windows washed, display cases polished, and Mary’s “To Do list” completed within a week. Both the North and South Galleries were readied for a May 4 reception celebrating the Morel and Spring Show featuring the member’s work in all media.

The winner of the SOBO Arts Festival poster contest was Deb Bobo. Her work along with the other poster entries is hung at the BAC Gallery through June. Visit www.soboartsfestival.comfor information on artists from all over the region who are expected to attend the two-day show celebrating the arts. The family friendly festival will be held in the SOBO arts district in Boyne City June 29-30 from 4 PM – 10 PM on Friday and 9 AM – 6 PM on Saturday. The festival features workshops, music, food, and children’s activities.

The first BAC Stage Concert was presented on May 29. Bob Marshall of Ortonville, MI entertained the audience with his songs and guitar. The BAC Saturday Jam Sessions, 10 AM – 12 PM are open to everyone, artist or non-artist, at no charge.

There is a call for artists to contact co curators Elaine Case at emcase@att.net or Mary Whitlock at marywhitlock51@gmail.com. The BAC displays will be seasonal this year so be sure to visit the Gallery during the Summer, Fall, and Winter exhibits.

Friday hours are 1 PM – 5 PM through June 8, then 1 PM – 8 PM from June 15 through Labor Day to welcome families who are out for Boyne’s Stroll the Streets. Weekend hours on Saturdays are 10 AM – 6 PM and on Sundays 12 PM – 4 PM.
